Who this covers

This policy covers teamnametaken.net (the "Site"), run by Team NameTaken LLC ("we," "us"). It explains what we collect when you play or make an account, and who else touches that data.

Who can use the Site

The Site is for people 13 and older. It isn't aimed at kids under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child under 13 has made an account or sent us their details, email us and we'll delete it.

What we collect

If you make an account:

  • Your username and a hash of your password. We never store the password itself.
  • An email address, only if you choose to add one.
  • Your game progress (like high scores), saved to your account so it follows you between devices.
  • If you subscribe, a Stripe customer ID and whether your subscription is active.
  • A login cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days.
  • Whether you've opted in to email updates about new games and major site changes. These are sent by hand, not on a schedule, so frequency depends entirely on how often there's real news. Off by default: we only email you if you opt in yourself, and you can opt out again any time from your account.

Whether or not you have an account:

  • Basic usage stats: which pages you view, which games you play and for how long, the page you came from, whether you're on a phone or a computer, and, where ads are shown, whether an ad blocker stopped them from loading. No raw browser strings and no IP addresses are stored with these stats.
  • A random ID saved in your browser (local storage) so we can tell repeat visitors apart from new ones. It isn't linked to your name or email, and clearing your browser data resets it. Where we ask for cookie consent (see below), it's only saved if you accept. Otherwise nothing is kept on your device, and each visit is counted on its own.
  • Game progress for signed-out players stays in your own browser. We don't receive it.

Your IP address is used briefly to slow down abuse, like repeated failed logins. It isn't tied to your usage stats. Our hosting provider may also keep standard server logs (which include IP addresses) for security and troubleshooting.

How we use it

  • To run accounts, save your progress, and let you log back in.
  • To send you password reset emails and answer questions you send us.
  • To send the update emails you've opted into, only when there's real news to share.
  • To handle the ad-free subscription.
  • To see which games people play so we know what to make and fix.
  • To keep the Site secure and stop abuse.

We don't sell your personal information and we don't use your data to build ad profiles ourselves.

Ads and cookies

The Site shows ads from a third-party ad network, Adsterra, to people who aren't subscribers. Ad networks can set cookies or use similar identifiers and may collect your IP address and browser details to pick and measure ads. That happens on their side under their own privacy policy, not ours. Subscribers don't see these ads.

If you're in Europe or the UK, or we can't tell where you are, we ask before loading ads or saving the visitor ID above. Reject, and no ads load and no ID is saved. We guess your region from your browser's timezone, so it isn't exact. You can change your choice any time with "Cookie settings" in the footer. Your choice is remembered in your browser for a year, and the login cookie and this remembered choice are the only things saved regardless, since the Site can't work without them.

You can also limit ad tracking through your browser or device settings, or by blocking third-party cookies. The ad-free subscription removes the ads entirely.

Who else handles your data

  • Stripe processes subscription payments. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us.
  • Adsterra serves the ads, as described above.
  • Resend delivers our emails, like password resets.
  • DigitalOcean hosts the Site's servers in the United States.

We share data with these companies only so they can do that job. We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect the Site and its users.

How long we keep it

  • Usage stats are deleted after about 13 months (400 days).
  • Account data is kept until you ask us to delete the account.
  • Password reset links expire after an hour.
  • Emails collected on our launch announcement list are kept until we send that announcement or you ask to be removed.

Your choices

You can change your email or password in your account settings. To see what we have on you, fix it, or delete your account and its data, email support@teamnametaken.net. Depending on where you live, the law may give you specific rights over your data, including access, correction, and deletion. We'll honor those requests wherever they apply.

Without an email on your account we can't verify who you are or reset a lost password, so a lost password can't be recovered.

Security

Passwords are hashed, logins use secure cookies, and the Site is served over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise absolute protection.

Changes

If we change this policy, the updated version goes up here with a new date. Using the Site after a change means you accept it.
